Frequently Asked Questions

General

Where is the center located?
The center address is 266 Escuela Avenue, Mt. View, Ca 94039

When will the center open?
The Center is currently under construction and a firm move-in date for the child care center has not been set. Based on the current construction schedule we are projecting a September 2, 2008 opening date. A firm opening date will be set in the late spring of 2008. All families will be notified once a firm date is set.

What types of programming will be offered?
The center will offer full- and part-time care. Full time schedules are available for children ages 6 weeks through 24 months of age. Starting at age two child can be enrolled in full- or part-time schedules.

What age groups will the center serve?
6 weeks through five years of age.

Who will operate and manage the center?
The center will be operated by Childrens' Creative Learning Centers (CCLC)

Who selected Childrens' Creative Learning Centers (CCLC)?
The City of Mountain View opened up an RFP process to all interested child care providers. Proposals were received from several local and national child care companies. The City selected CCLC because of their proven track record as a strong provider of employer sponsored child care, their experience developing corporate child care programs, and their commitment to NAEYC Accreditation. Enrollment

What is priority enrollment?
Priority enrollment means that those who fit into certain criteria will be offered space in the center over all others. The priority enrollment structure for the center is as follows:

  1. Low Income - City of Mountain View Residents
(Up to 30% of the spaces)
  2. City of Mountain View Residents
  3. City of Mountain View Employees
  4. All others

When there is an open space in the center the space will be offered to families in the above priority order.

When can I enroll?
The center is expected to have more applications than spaces available in the center. To provide all interested families an opportunity to gain a space in the center, CCLC will conduct a lottery for all age groups. CCLC will begin accepting lottery forms in February 2008. Because space is limited, families are encouraged to submit their lottery forms as soon as possible. To obtain the application materials, click here.

Do I have to pay a fee or deposit?
Yes. There is non-refundable $25 fee due at the time you submit your completed lottery form. If you are offered a space in the center and choose to enroll, you will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit (which will be applied to your first month's tuition) to reserve your space in the center.

When will I be notified if I have received a space?
Families who have submitted lottery forms will be contacted by CCLC in May 2008. Please refer to the calendar for all important dates.

What happens if there are more applications than spaces available?
If there are more applications received for a particular age group than there are spaces available in the center, CCLC will conduct a lottery. Families whose names are selected will be contacted directly by CCLC and will have five days to accept or reject the space. Families who are not selected in the lottery will be placed on the waitlist (under the appropriate priority based on residency and employer) in the order in which their lottery forms were received by CCLC and will be notified as soon as a space becomes available.

What are the child-to-teacher ratios in each classroom?

Curriculum & Accreditation

What kind of curriculum will be offered?
CCLC's curriculum facilitates learning in a developmental-based, thematic and multicultural manner for each age group. CCLC views learning as a process that requires a balance between child-initiated and staff-initiated activities. These developed activities incorporate and understand the developmental level of each group while ensuring children are properly prepared for Kindergarten.

Childrens' Creative Learning Centers utilizes its exclusive Guided Discovery Curriculum™ in its centers, incorporating physical, social, language, cognitive and emotional development. Guided Discovery is rooted in educational philosophy and theory as well as practice. It relies heavily on Erik Erikson's stages of socio-emotional development, Jean Piaget's theories of how children think and learn, and on principles of physical development. The curriculum is reflective of the criteria set by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) Accreditation process.

What is NAEYC accreditation?
NAEYC accreditation means that an early childhood program voluntarily applied for accreditation by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. The program then engaged in an extensive self-study based on the Academy's Criteria for High Quality Early Childhood Program. The accuracy of the program's self-study was verified during a site visit to the program by a team of trained volunteer validators. The validated self-study, including the program director's responses to the validation visit, was reviewed by a 3-member national commission composed of recognized experts in child care and early childhood education, judged to be in substantial compliance with the Academy's Criteria, and granted accreditation for a three-year period. The early childhood program agreed to act upon the commission's suggestions regarding areas needing improvement and to submit annual written reports documenting improvements and continued compliance. Less than 8% of all child care centers nationally have received NAEYC Accreditation.

How do State and County subsidy programs work and how do I apply?
The Community Child Care Council of Santa Clara County (4Cs) has a subsidy program available for qualifying families. Parents can receive subsidized care if they have received "Public Assistance or Cash Aid at any time with in the last two years" and if they meet eligibility standards. Eligibility is determined by using the California Department of Education guidelines. Additional information can be found at www.4c.org. To find out if your family qualifies contact the 4Cs Enrollment Clerk at (408) 487-0623. Once your eligibility has been determined and all necessarily paperwork is complete the council will send an "approval notice of action". The approval notice will need to be given to the center Director prior to enrollment.

Choices for Children of Santa Clara County is an additional resource available to families in need of assistance or subsidy. Choices for Children provides subsidy from state and federal funds through the Alternative Payment Program. Eligibility is determined by the Department of Education guidelines. Families must "meet income requirements and have a need for child care while they work, look for employment, attend training..." Additional information can be found at http://www.choices4children-santaclara.org/program_1.aspx. Or by contacting Choices for Children at (408) 280 2322.
